Presenter/Facilitator: San Ng, BSc., MBA, PhD
San is Managing Director of Vision & Results Inc., a boutique management consulting company established in 2004. San is dedicated to supporting non-profit organizations with making a difference in people’s lives. Over the past 23 years, San has worked with over 150 agencies supporting youth, adults, seniors, immigrants/newcomers and refugees, women, people with physical and developmental disabilities, mental health and addictions, and HIV/AIDS. Non-profit agencies that she has supported deliver programs and services in health care, community support services, housing, food security, employment, education, and legal services.
San’s areas of expertise include Board governance, change management, strategy and planning; organizational design; operational improvement, evaluation, and integration. With respect to strategy, San supports agencies with developing strategic, operational and program/service plans and mobilizing change given limited resources, increasing service needs, and complex, uncertain environments.
Prior to Vision & Results, San worked with KPMG, PSTG and Courtyard. San holds a PhD from the Institute of Health, Policy, Management and Evaluation from the University of Toronto, and an MBA from McMaster University. She is Board Chair of Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care which has 805 long-term care beds across the GTA, 400 supportive housing clients, and over 20,000 seniors accessing community services.
Session Description: Effective governance by Boards of Directors of nonprofits has never been more crucial for nonprofits to navigate through challenging times such as the COVID-19 crisis. This learning session will focus on “Governance 101” including the role and function of the Board during rapidly changing and challenging times. This interactive learning session will include a review of key governance concepts, facilitated discussions, and exercises to support participants with strengthening Board governance.

⮚ Learn about the characteristics of an effective Board-staff relationship
⮚ Discuss unique challenges and opportunities facing Boards during challenging situations including turning to By-laws, governance policies, risk management and mitigation, and obtaining legal and other external expertise
